Cakes can be Healthy Too !! A quick Recipe for Oats & FLax Seeds Cake



These days Health is a priority but desire to have something sweet can also not be left aside, so keeping this in mind we at Baker’s Flame experimented with a very healthy cake. All ingredients in this cake have some nutritional value and of course, there is no refined flour. Isn’t that great! So let us start with the ingredients and its health benefits.



Oats: Oats are rich source of fibre especially Beta Glucan, protein, minerals, vitamins as well as antioxidants. It also helps in controlling cholesterol and blood sugar levels. It has been medically proven that oats helps in reducing weight. We are all aware of kids suffering from juvenile asthma, and consumption of oats reduces risk of childhood asthma.

Flax seeds: flax seeds contain zero cholesterol and are rich source of plant-based protein and dietary fibre. These seeds have large number of minerals like manganese, magnesium, calcium, iron, potassium, sodium and thiamine. It is also rich source of alpha-Linoleic acid, omega-3 fatty acid and lignans. They contain vitamin C and B6. It keeps blood sugar in check. As they have high content of fibre it keeps the stomach full for a long time, which helps in avoiding overeating. These benefits attribute towards it being classified as a “Supper Food”.

Butter: Though we all have a presumption that butter is unhealthy, but we will like to share a few health aspects of this ingredient. Butter improves our immune system, regulates the hormones, increases brain function, boosts metabolism and protects vision. The only thing that needs to be kept in mind is that this food should be consumed in moderate limits.

Egg: eggs are said to be wholesome food. They are the best source of choline. It has antioxidants lute in and zeaxanthin which are important to keep the eyes healthy and prevent muscular degeneration and cataract. It helps in elevating good cholesterol HDL. Eggs are rich sources of selenium, vitamin D, B6, B12 and minerals such as zinc, iron and copper. It helps in maintaining and repairing body tissues.

Sugar: sugar helps in having clearer skin and reduce risk of skin cancer. It helps in preventing mood swings and reduces inflammation. Sugar is the fastest source of energy. Keeping in mind that people are conscious about the consumption of butter and sugar, our recipe has minimal quantity of both these ingredients. Recipe

Ingredients

1. Butter – 50g

2. Sugar – 60g

3. Egg - 1

4. Oats flour (ground oats) – 50g

5. Baking powder – ½ tsp

6. Vanilla extract – ½ tsp

7. Oats – For garnish

8. Flax seeds / almond flakes – For garnish

Method

1. Cream butter and sugar till light and fluffy

2. Add egg and beat till the egg is incorporated

3. Add vanilla essence and beat further.

4. Sieve the oats flour and baking powder together

5. Fold the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients little at a time.

6. Put the butter in a lined tin and sprinkle oats and flax seeds on top

7. Bake at 180°C for 20-25 minutes.

Tips

1. While making larger recipe put one egg at a time to make the batter more fluffy

2. you and put a thin skewer in in the cake after 20-25 mins, if it comes out clean it means that it is ready otherwise leave it for a few more minutes.

3. Don’t open the oven when the cake is getting baked. The cake might sink from the center.
